ACONCAGUA

Mountain Glamping

Brief:

Quechua Architecture Competition, Q.A.C., welcomes all participants to take part of this challenge which consists in presenting and developing a project that explores diverse fields of thinking and design. The challenge for this occasion is “Aconcagua Mountain Glamping”.

Feeling on top of the world has been accomplished by few human beings. Mountaineering is an extreme activity where you defy nature testing your body at the limit and even risking your life. In this process architecture has gained an important role connecting humans and nature to ease this interaction. From the base of the mountain to the summit, architecture has the role of protecting visitors through the journey.

Climbing a mountain is a ritual for many; the process of arriving to the site, overpassing nature to the base camp, remaining at the refuge, and preparing the expedition to the summit are some of the challenges that every mountaineer faces. Every designer will be challenged to
bring their imagination to the limit to accomplish this competition. In this occasion, we select the highest point in South America where its natural conditions and position is a matter of studies for designers in the selected site: Aconcagua - Mendoza, Argentina.

Q.A.C. thanks and admires all designers who are willing to take the challenge.

We are two young architects who have graduated and worked together on several projects. We love to explore, experience travel, and also interested in the different architectural challenges in different lands. Upon the finding of the competition and learning more about the site, we were very excited and impressed with the unique landscape surrounding the Aconcagua region, the history of South America with the Andean civilizations, as well as the requirements from the competition. These inspired and motivated us to participate in the competition. For us, to

create a good quality architectural space, we always consider the location of the land, not only geography but also landscape, history, culture, as well as the unique needs of people’s demand. We want to use our knowledge to deliver the right architectural solutions, as well as create maximum comfort and support for the user.

I am an Ecuadorian architect, graduate from the USFQ in 2020. Currently, I am working in my studio. But, during my studies, I develop an interest in design and technologies. This helps me improve myself in many different areas that design with technologies is very important for us. Also, I love the mountains for camping and climbing and other activities that help you mix with nature, so that why I choose to participate in this competition. The main goal to enter this competition was to share my ideas with the architecture world. So, mixing things

that I do, really get inspired to produce a design that helps the climbers in the toughest scenarios to achieve their goals, giving them a space of community.

"I believe that through architecture we can create new worlds, new apprehensions and experiences, between materiality, light and space."

-M. Portela

I believe that the purpose of architecture and urbanism emerges from the cohesive construction between dialogue, sketch, and imagination and above all from the character in which space, light and materiality evoke in the senses of any individual.

-André Alves

I've been interested on Latin America and finding some answers for problems around our culture an social context also apply my projectual pratices.
